Welcome to Milton Community Woodland
Milton Community Woodland lies on the south bank of the River Balnagown near the village of Milton in Easter Ross.
Classed as an ancient semi-natural woodland, the woodland is composed mostly of
deciduous hardwoods, typically oak, elm, beech and alder, lime and ash. Some of
the larger trees in the woodland may have originated from the original plantings
dating back to the 17th century. At this time the land was part of Tarbat
Estate.
Although the woods had long been used by local people as a recreational site, in the late 1990’s it was threatened with development.
As a result of this threat Milton Community Woodland Trust was founded by
members of the local community, who successfully secured the woodland for the
people of Milton and surrounding areas.
Now, many years later, MCWT has developed into a successful and thriving
community based project offering summer events, educational and income
opportunities for adults and children alike as well as a network of paths for
informal recreation.
